If you make an effort to protect your skin, you may be able to control your eczema symptoms at home. This starts with the diligent and liberal use of a high-quality moisturizer. It's also helpful to bathe less frequently — every other day, for instance.

Eczema treatment at Z-ROC Dermatology depends on your symptoms and may include:

• Topical corticosteroid creams
• Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory creams
• Oral biologic medications
• Light therapy
• Emollient moisturizers

Your dermatologist will start with the most conservative treatment first. This includes topical creams and moisturizers that you apply at home. If creams and emollient moisturizers can’t control your eczema, you may try light therapy or medications.

In light therapy, your dermatologist exposes eczema flare-ups to controlled UVB light. Light therapy fights bacteria, reduces itchiness, and soothes inflammation.

Biologic medications are derived from living organisms, and they prevent your body’s cells from launching an attack on themselves. This, in turn, prevents the inflammation and other symptoms of eczema.
