Skin Cancer Screening

Skin cancer is the most common malignancy in the United States and its incidence is increasing worldwide.  Two of the most common are called basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and are located in areas of the skin that have frequent sun exposure.  Most often these types of skin cancer are easily treated without any lasting effects, however there still exists a minimal chance of these skin cancers spreading to other parts of the body (metastasize).  Although less common, malignant melanoma is an extremely dangerous form of skin cancer due to its high propensity to metastasize.  Malignant melanoma requires specific and immediate treatment by a qualified physician.  Skin cancer screenings are the best way to determine if further action and treatment by a qualified dermatologist is required.
